Legendary British Pop punk influenced by the garage rock of the 1960s and the glam rock of the 1970s.
The Undertones, this is the story of five friends who decided to learn the principles of rock and roll in 1976 in Derry, Northern Ireland. The O’Neill brothers’ melodies and guitar riffs, influenced by the garage rock of the ’60s and the glam rock of the ’70s, hit the nail on the head and helped them break through with the legendary “Teenage Kicks.
Over the next four years, they released other top songs such as “Get Over You,” “Here Comes The Summer,” “Jimmy Jimmy,” “You’ve Got My Number (Why Don’t You Use It!),” “My Perfect Cousin” and “It’s Going To Happen! During the same period, they recorded four critically acclaimed albums, toured the United States with The Clash and did a series of tours of their own.
After a long hiatus, the band reunited in 1999 with Paul McLoone as vocalist, and returned to the stage regularly, much to the delight of their fans. Since their re-formation, The Undertones have released the albums Get What You Need in 2003 and Dig Yourself Deep in 2007, as well as the double A-side single “Much Too Late / Another Girl” in 2013. To this day, they remain one of the most influential pop punk bands in music history. Don’t miss them on Sept. 10 at De Vooruit!
